When working on any project that involves digging into the earth, there is the ever-present danger of there being services that run in the exact area that you need to dig. Locating and identifying these services is a prerequisite to any form of excavation, whether that is using hand tools, a mini-digger, or a JCB.
Our underground surveyor course will teach operatives everything from scratch and assumes that they know nothing about locating underground services.
Our team has over 100 years of combined experience, and that includes experience of manufacturing equipment such as the CAT and Genny. That means that we know how these things work, why they work, and most importantly, what limitations they have. They do have certain limitations and it is vital that an operative understands what these are and how to take them into account when carrying out a survey.
Our underground surveyor course is also based on our practical experience of utility mapping on real sites and working under real conditions. We know how to use the right equipment and the correct application for each individual situation.
We also fully understand the use of Mala GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) equipment. In fact, we are the sole Mala GPR Service Agents for the whole of the UK. We have a fully stocked workshop with all the necessary parts and can provide a quick turnaround time for those needing service. Regular maintenance is required in order to keep the units in tip-top order.
Today, more and more utilities are using non-metallic materials in the construction of underground services, and this means that the CAT and Genny can leave you without all the information that you need. The Mala Easy Locator uses ground penetrating radar which does not require any electromagnetic radiation from a utility, and neither does it require any connection to it.
Our EUSR HSG47 course is approved by the Energy and Utility Skills Register and can now be added as a category on any EUSR card. Our EUSR HSG47 course can also provide you with the EUSR Category 1 Utility Location Course.
Quite obviously, it is not possible to understand and use the CAT and Genny or the Mala Easy Locator without practical experience out on site. However, the first part of all of our training courses consists of classroom training in order to learn and understand the theory and how these tools work.
However, we have now also developed an online course as the result of the pandemic, and this is available to operatives as well. This can be accessed using any browser and it is also interactive which means that attendees can ask questions and get answers from the instructor. Combined with a practical session on site, this allows us to issue our own in-house certification, EUSR certification, and ProQual Level 2 certification as well.
