Health and safety should inform pretty much every project in the construction industry in some way. As well as being factoid into the way tasks are planned and people are managed, there should always be some health and safety precautions and emergency protocols in place in case accidents take place.
Accidents during excavations can be incredibly dangerous when cables are not accurately detected and avoided. They may occur suddenly and pose a threat to life for anyone in the vicinity, due to explosions, fires and electrical shocks.
Performing surveys of underground cables and services is about more than just identifying where existing infrastructure is so that it can be avoided during excavation. It is also a way that authorities and contractors can maintain and improve key services throughout the UK.
