Sygma Solution Ltd provide tailored buried utility location courses at any site across the UK. Our training specialises in the use of CAT 4, CAT 3 and Genny4 equipment to locate the positioning of underground utilities and buried cables. A range of courses are available providing CAT 4 and CAT 3 training including the most basic one day Cable Location Course through to our five day Utility Surveyor Course which is approved by the The Survey Association (TSA).
Our proven track record and uniquely developed courses ensure operatives are instilled with confidence and knowledge to undertake complete and thorough site surveys, using the most effective equipment as well as their newly learned skills.
Our courses differ from others in Cable Avoidance as we focus on the specific use of CAT 4, CAT 3 and Genny4 use. Other courses tend to focus on power and radio passive use. We also utilise our wealth of knowledge and expertise, including working with Cable Locator manufacturers around the world.
Our courses focus closely on the Genny ensuring all operatives can operate it successfully and understand a wide range of different application techniques, including those they may never have seen before.
Our courses are designed to ensure all operatives have an improved awareness of how to avoid damaging buried cabling and utilities. They will also learn how to operate more safely, more efficiently and in a cost effective way.
Courses are assessed both through a written assessment and on-site. The on-site assessment is based upon the operative’s ability to locate and mark-up a range of buried services using all modes. Operatives will be split into pairs for the assessment and set a team objective to locate all the services in a set area using buried service plans (STATS) plans and equipment.
On completion of the on-site assessment operatives will complete a written multiple choice paper back in the classroom. The paper has a minimum pass mark of 70%. Operatives who have reading difficulties or dyslexia will have the option to sit an aural assessment.
Several key modules of our CAT 4 and CAT 3 training courses are studied in a classroom environment:
On-site training helps to ensure operatives can put into practice what they have learned in the classroom.
Operatives will learn the importance of initial visual site checks before any work is undertaken. Using service plans and existing site information operatives will learn how to ascertain the indicated routes of utilities in a specific area.
Operatives will be trained specifically in the use of the Genny4. Operatives will receive in depth training with the Genny, in all modes and will understand the benefits of using the CAT4 and Genny combination in all circumstances, as well as an understanding of the benefits of dual frequencies. Operatives will also gain a full understanding of how to test equipment and ensure it is in satisfactory condition for use.
Operatives will also be shown how to effectively locate services such as street lighting and small service cables.
